High-precision CNC tangential grinding for critical exterior surfaces
At Erosystem we offer a high-precision CNC tangential grinding industrial service as our own process, integrated within our value chain and geared towards industrial projects under European standards.
Precision industrial tangential grinding is used as a final finishing process, as an intermediate process within the production chain, or as a controlled corrective process, when it is necessary to achieve strict parallelism, excellent flatness, and fine surface finishes on functional outer faces.
This versatility allows us to optimize machined parts, prepare stable reference surfaces for subsequent processes, and recover high value-added components, reducing scrap and maintaining rigorous control over the part in finishing phases.
Tangential grinding integrated into the manufacturing chain
Tangential grinding is part of our integrated manufacturing chain and is used as a final or intermediate process to ensure flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity and demanding surface finishes on the outer faces of prismatic parts.
As an intermediate process, it is usually applied after semi-finishing CNC machining and before finishing operations on hardened steels or wire and sinker electro-erosion processes, ensuring flat reference surfaces and stable supports with precise finishes for the subsequent critical phases.
As a final process, it allows for the optimization of surface finishes, the matching of heights between components with absolute precision, the reduction of friction on functional surfaces, the correction of admissible deviations, and the recovery of high value-added parts, provided that the geometry allows it.
The direct integration of grinding with machining, electrical discharge machining (EDM), and dimensional control allows us to reduce lead times, avoid unnecessary rework, and maintain complete control over the part until its final verification according to European standards. This integrated approach is especially effective in industrial environments where repeatability, dimensional control, and process reliability are critical.
Tangential grinding technical capabilities
The tangential grinding process is geared towards achieving high levels of geometric accuracy and surface quality on the outer flat faces of aeronautical components, dies, precision tooling or machine tools.
Technical capabilities:
- Typical achievable tolerances: up to 10 µm.
- Typical surface finishes: Ra ≤ 0.8 µm.
- Maximum piece size:
- X: 800 mm
- Y: 400 mm
- Z: 300 mm (recommended ≤ 200 mm depending on geometry).
This process is especially effective in ensuring strict parallelism, high-quality surface finishes, and high repeatability in the thickness of a series of parts.
Common materials
We recondition industrial components made of materials with magnetic properties or that can be securely attached to a magnetic base:
- Carbon and soft alloy steels.
- Alloyed and tempered steels up to 66 HRc.
- Martensitic stainless steels.
- Carbide.
The process is always evaluated based on the material, geometry, requirements to be met, the height of the piece and the stability during grinding.
Typical applications of tangential grinding
Tangential grinding is mainly used in industrial components that require high finishes and parallelism on their outer faces:
- Plates and blocks of centesimal precision.
- Adjustment elements in molds, dies and tooling.
- Surface finishing subjected to dynamic friction.
- Alignment and surface leveling of parts with inserts.
- Equalizing heights in different units with identical application.
- Support, backing and closing surfaces with adjacent components.
Rectified as a controlled corrective process
In certain cases, we use grinding to retouch exterior surfaces after the insertion of corrective elements, allowing:
- Correct slight deviations in the position of threads or holes.
- Recovering worn surfaces on high value-added parts.
The combination of grinding with electro-erosion processes (Wire EDM & Sinker EDM) allows us to perform this type of correction on hardened or high-hardness materials such as carbide.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of projects can Erosystem help me with?
Erosystem is an expert in developing comprehensive solutions in precision machining and electro-erosion for single parts, short series, and turnkey tooling.
We have a team of qualified engineers and advanced technology to design, manufacture, measure and assemble all types of mechanical components that require to be produced by means of precision machining, grinding and electro-erosion techniques.
Can I request a quote without having a technical drawing?
It depends. If you’re looking to have a specific, pre-designed component manufactured, we require a technical drawing or a 3D model showing all the specifications that must be met.
Conversely, if you have an idea, a sketch, or a physical sample, our engineers will review the details with you to offer a proposal tailored to your needs.
How long should I wait to receive a quote?
Depending on the complexity of the request. For the manufacture of specific components according to a drawing, you will normally receive a quote in less than 3 business days.
For poorly defined projects that require analysis and conceptual design, or complex projects where a wide variety of manufacturing processes, materials and treatments come into play, the bidding time is extended.
However, our sales team will be in constant contact with you to understand your needs and keep you informed while we prepare the optimal proposal for you.
What delivery times can I expect from the moment I place a formal order?
It will depend on the type of project, the complexity of the parts to be manufactured, and the quantities required.
In any case, we will use all available resources to meet the delivery milestones you require, and our sales team will advise you from the beginning so that you have a realistic expectation in this regard.
Do you provide technical support before subscribing to the service?
Yes. Our engineers are dedicated to understanding each application in order to advise you from the consultation phase, with the aim of resolving all the doubts you may have regarding precision machining processes, electrical discharge machining, and other aspects related to the project.
The goal is to define the optimal manufacturing process so that the economic proposal is as competitive as possible.
Do you perform machining of single or unique parts?
Yes. We are experts in the precision machining of single or unique parts according to the customer’s drawings.
Do you perform prototype machining?
Yes. We manufacture prototypes for technical validation in the early stages of development and assist you in the industrialization process with a functional, effective, efficient, ergonomic, and cost-effective approach. This service is ideal for clients who need to validate the component before mass production.
